So you’ve come to Miami for a little fun and sun? Whether you’re on a wild and crazy spring break, or a relaxing family vacation with the kids, Miami Beach and South Beach are the most inviting beaches on South Florida’s Atlantic Coast. The vast stretches of sand are impressive, and the water is an intense blue because of the warm ocean currents. Miami Beach-and especially South Beach-is a great destination for your next vacation!
Sometimes called the “American Riviera,” there are many different moods along the stretch of the Atlantic known as Miami Beach. From the ultra-conservative to the bohemian-and everything in between-there is something for everyone in Miami Beach.
At the most southern tip of Miami Beach, you’ll find South Pointe Park-a pleasant family-oriented area with grassy walkways, playgrounds, and of course a beach for swimming. While there, take a short walk to the Miami Beach Marina to see some of the most incredible yachts in the world.
The area of South Beach from South Pointe Park up to 5th street is a magnet for surfers. Or, just a little north alongside Lummus Park are the expansive beaches dotted with colorful lifeguard huts and lots of sand. Further north-around 21st Street-are where gay sunbathers tend to gather. And at the most northern portion of Miami Beach are Bal Harbour, which is mostly reserved for its residents, Haulover Beach Park, a free beach with nude sunbathing at its north end, and the North Shore State Recreation area, located between 79th Street and 87th Street.
